Frequently Asked Questions About Blind Flanges

Blind flanges lack a bored center of traditional flanges. They have the same thicknesses, but their solid face makes them useful for creating a dead end.

They’re available in both raised and flat-faced options and can help you perform a sectional replacement without shutting down your pipelines.

They also help you assemble and ship entire pipe sections anywhere in the world. Various industries benefit, from refineries and pipelines to construction and fabrication.

Blind flanges are thick and secured with bolt holes, while blank flanges are slim plates that allow fluids to pass through.

Blind flanges give you a low-cost solution to pipe sealing. Valves are often installed miles away from the job site, so repairs can be time-consuming.

Blind flanges solve the problem by letting you stop fluid flow right at the repair site.

ANSI class designates the amount of pressure and temperature your pipe flange can cope with. The rating includes classes from 150 up to 2,500.

American National Standard flanges are denoted as ASME, but temperature resistance can also be expressed as psi. The ASME B16.5-2020 will give you all the data you need about ANSI ratings.

Most blind flanges are made from steel or stainless steel. The former is far stronger. API International blind flanges are also offered in forged and plate steel. The American Iron and Steel Institute requirements list gives you the precise requirements of every application. Hydro Blind Solutions sells both carbon and stainless steel products. Our product list also includes paddle, spectacle, and vented blinds in a wide selection of pressure resistance ratings.

Blinds come in a range of dimensions and shapes. Most are round, but a square solution will probably suit you best if you’re working with hydraulic piping systems. They’re also offered in anything between 4- and 72-inch radiuses. F.SF flanges are slightly smaller, while SB and SD options cover the widest size range on the market.

If you frequently use blind flanges, an outright purchase will probably be more cost-effective than a rental. If you need a one-off solution, a rental is likely a better option.
