WHAT IS A PADDLE BLIND USED FOR?
Paddle blinds are used to isolate a section of piping or equipment for maintenance or safety by blocking flow completely. They are inserted between flanges and are commonly used in oil, gas, chemical, and water industries.
Paddle blinds are available in a wide range of sizes, typically from 1/2" up to 60" or more, depending on the application. Sizing should match your pipeline's flange dimensions and pressure rating.
The choice between Series A or Series B paddle blinds is based on the flange dimensions defined by ASME B16.47. Series A paddle blinds have a larger outside diameter and greater thickness. Series B paddle blinds have a smaller outside diameter and are thinner, making them lighter and more compact.
⚠️ Important: Series A and Series B are not interchangeable.
Always check your piping specifications or flange drawings to ensure you select the correct series for your application.
Paddle blinds are typically cut from flat plate steel. Mill finish paddle blinds have an unfinished surface with natural “mill scale” from the manufacturing process. They are cost-effective and generally used for temporary isolation or hydrostatic testing. Machine finish paddle blinds, by contrast, are manufactured with a 125–250 RMS serrated face finish, which provides a smoother, more reliable gasket sealing surface. This makes them the preferred choice for long-term, high-pressure applications where sealing performance is critical.
